Last week, we learned that Leon Kennedy will indeed be a playable character in Resident Evil Requiem. However, the extent of his role remained unclear until The Game Awards 2025, where it was revealed that Leon will serve as a full-time duo protagonist alongside Grace Ashcroft.

Capcom has since provided more details about Leon’s involvement in the game. According to Resident Evil Requiem director Akifumi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa, Leon and Grace will have balanced screen time throughout a single playthrough. The developers emphasized their intention to keep their playtime about equal, ensuring both characters receive ample focus.

Beyond equal presence, Leon and Grace offer slightly different gameplay styles and mechanics. While Grace’s segments are said to resemble 2019’s Resident Evil 2, Leon’s gameplay is expected to mirror the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake. This creates a unique experience that distinguishes the two characters beyond just their equipment and moves.

The decision to bring Leon back for Resident Evil Requiem surprised many fans. Initially, it was assumed the game would primarily spotlight new or lesser-known characters like Grace and Alyssa Ashcroft. Nevertheless, rumors of Leon’s inclusion have been circulating regularly since the game was announced, and these have now been confirmed.

Resident Evil Requiem’s approach to showcasing both familiar and new faces promises an exciting addition to the franchise.
