**HCLSoftware to Acquire Jaspersoft for $240 Million, Expands Data Platform with Wobby AI Tool**

HCLSoftware Inc. has announced plans to acquire Jaspersoft Inc., a leading provider of business intelligence software, in an all-cash deal reportedly valued at $240 million. The company revealed the transaction on Monday, alongside the acquisition of Wobby, an early-stage startup that has developed an artificial intelligence tool for querying data warehouses. The Wobby deal is reportedly worth $5.3 million.

HCLSoftware, based in India, offers a broad portfolio of software products for tasks ranging from finding code vulnerabilities to optimizing network equipment. According to the company, more than 20,000 organizations—including most of the Fortune 100—use its applications. HCLSoftware operates as a unit of HCL Technologies Ltd., one of the world’s largest technology service providers.

Jaspersoft is currently a unit of software conglomerate Cloud Software Group Inc., which emerged in 2022 through the merger of Citrix Systems Inc. and Tibco Software Inc. Tibco acquired Jaspersoft in 2014 for $185 million. Jaspersoft provides a business intelligence platform that enables developers to embed data visualizations directly into their applications. For instance, a startup that sells store management software could create dashboards to display shopper buying patterns.

Jaspersoft’s platform is available in both open-source and paid versions. The paid tier includes advanced features such as interactive graphs for in-depth data analysis and a wider variety of visualizations, including maps. Developers can streamline dashboard design by creating reusable templates known as externalized style sheets, allowing for consistent updates across multiple dashboards.

Under the hood, Jaspersoft uses SQL for data collection, and incorporates caching for frequently used datasets. This means it avoids running the same queries repeatedly, saving crucial hardware resources. Additionally, Jaspersoft leverages an in-memory engine to keep data in RAM from the outset, bypassing the delays of fetching records from secondary storage such as flash. This significantly speeds up query performance.

HCLSoftware plans to integrate Jaspersoft’s technology to further enhance its Actian Data Intelligence Platform—a comprehensive data management toolkit acquired in a previous deal. This platform helps organizations improve data quality in business intelligence dashboards by filtering duplicates, identifying missing data, and addressing other quality concerns, while also optimizing query performance.

The acquisition of Wobby is also aimed at bolstering the Actian Data Intelligence Platform. HCLSoftware intends to introduce AI agents that enable users to query datasets using natural language prompts, making business intelligence more accessible and flexible.

“Our customers want business intelligence solutions that can deliver consistent analytics and reports and offer flexibility to fully own the analytics experience,” said Marc Potter, portfolio general manager of HCLSoftware’s data and AI group.

HCLSoftware expects both acquisitions to be completed within six months.
