The most affected players discovered this tragic Boxing Day surprise upon opening Escape From Tarkov. Instead of their familiar profiles, they were met with the usual prompt to choose a faction, a nickname, and a character model — essentially, starting from scratch.
The source of these account resets appears to be a site vulnerability. This security flaw allows third parties to wipe accounts and change details, even when the owner has two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. To make matters worse, at the time of writing, changing your password does not log out the malicious party from the compromised account.
Currently, the only reliable solution seems to be contacting BattleState Games’ support team to request your account be locked. After that, you can log in again with new credentials to regain control.

Although this vulnerability is indiscriminate, streamers have been the main targets in this wave of resets. Popular names like DrLupo have lost their account progress, with BAXBEAST suffering especially heavily due to the hack.
Social media posts and Escape From Tarkov forums have been flooded with reports of wiped accounts. According to one social media update, BAXBEAST lost a level 53 account on the verge of reaching Prestige 5, and with the coveted For Humanity ending completed.
Considering how time-consuming the new main story in Escape From Tarkov is, it’s no surprise that the lost progress is causing immense grief.

Creator and Tarkov resource curator LogicalSolutions, who has also experienced a wipe, has confirmed that BattleState Games is aware of the issue. However, it remains unclear whether any lost progress can be recovered.
If not, this unfortunate event may be one of the most unceremonious ways to “escape” from Tarkov. Players are advised to stay vigilant, secure their accounts as best as possible, and reach out to official support if affected.
