Press briefing by Francesca Albanese, Special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian Territories at UN Headquarters on October 27, 2022

Who Would Like to See the UN Expelled from Manhattan?

The United Nations sits on some of the most desirable real estate in the world—right on the water in Manhattan. Yet, there are voices questioning why the UN continues to occupy this prime location. James Woods, among others, has offered suggestions on the matter.

Recently, UN Rapporteur for Gaza, Francesca Albanese, has made headlines by officially calling for the United Nations to isolate the United States. The UN has often been referred to as the “Dictator’s Club,” a nickname reflecting criticism of its membership and policies.

In response to her statements, the United States sanctioned Albanese. Appointed to speak on behalf of the UN, Albanese has come out saying that Hamas must be treated as a legitimate political entity rather than dismissed outright.

Albanese stated:

> “People continue to say ‘But Hamas, Hamas, Hamas.’ I don’t think people have any idea what Hamas is. Hamas is a political force that won the 2005 elections—whether we like it or not. Hamas built schools, public facilities, hospitals. It was simply the authority, the de facto authority.”

She continued:

> “So it is critical that you understand, that when you think of Hamas, you should not necessarily think of cut-throats, people armed to the teeth, or fighters. It’s not like that.”

This line of defense has sparked fierce criticism. Comparing such reasoning to defending historical tyrants, one might recall that Hitler, too, built roads, schools, and hospitals, yet orchestrated a devastating world war and genocide causing millions of deaths. Critics argue that Albanese is acting as a terrorist enabler by softening the perception of Hamas.

Reflecting on the broader stakes, Mike Vanderbeough remarked:

> “It is no small thing, to restore a republic after it has fallen into corruption. I have studied history for years and I cannot recall it ever happening. It may be that our task is impossible. Yet, if we do not try then how will we know it could not be done? And if we do not try, it most certainly will not be done. The Founders’ Republic, and the larger war for western civilization, will be lost.”
